Imagine a trunk—once a vessel for travel, trade, and mystery—transformed into a stage for a daring reimagining. Under the creative vision of Younes Duret, the Aji n’safrou sofa invites us to rediscover this iconic piece, no longer as a simple container, but as a symbol brimming with stories and culture.

Repurposed from its original function, it now unveils the richness of Moroccan heritage. In this work, the sense of mystery lingers, yet what is typically concealed emerges into plain view. Noble materials, intricate patterns, and vibrant hues become the hallmarks of a treasured legacy—a traditional craftsmanship revived through a contemporary perspective.

The expression “Aji n’safrou” is a call to action, to journey, to explore… “Come, let’s escape.”

Like an invitation, this unconventional trunk retains its aura of intrigue while proudly showcasing its contents—an ode to Moroccan artisanship and heritage.

For the time being, Aji n’sarfou is on display in the reception lounges of Attijariwafa Bank’s headquarters in Casablanca. Younes presents furniture that merges tradition and modernity, collaborating with local artisans. He places his design expertise at the service of showcasing cultural heritage.

“What I took with me that was most precious could not be locked in a trunk. “Culture,” said an oriental moralist, “is what remains in the mind when everything else has been forgotten.”

This modular furniture adapts to various uses, allowing it to be arranged as a single armchair or as collective seating, inviting users to personalize their experience.

Its structure rests on a wooden base, recalling the image of nested trunks—each one evoking the heritage and luxury of a time when luggage bore the marks of distant travels. This base becomes the central element: both functional and a symbol of Moroccan culture—a legacy safeguarded by a leather strap, a symbolic attachment.

The color palette draws inspiration from the precious universe of the trunk. Younes offers a journey that is not only sensory, but also a nod to the spices once carried along trade routes, to traditional textiles, and to local oils.
